Welcome to the Chicago - United States Army Recruiting Battalion! On behalf of the Battalion Commander, Command Sergeant Major and myself we would like to extend warm greetings. We look forward to you joining our team! This is an exciting time for the Chicago Recruiting Battalion. We are embarking on many new goals and aspirations. In doing so we are looking for strong Noncommissioned Officers who possess high leadership qualities. You will be both challenged and rewarded during your assignment with us.
Our battalion is headquartered at Great Lakes, Illinois and surrounded with military facilities that will ease your transition. We have six recruiting companies. Our footprint covers the heart of Chicago, Glenview, Downers Grove, Libertyville, the Homewood area and South Bend, Indiana. This battalion will expect a lot from you while at work, but the city offers some exciting and spectacular events to keep you busy during your leisure time!
Chicago houses the Sears Tower, McCormick Place, Shedd Aquarium, Soldier Field and the Navy Pier which offers some exciting places to shop and dine! We also have six flags located directly outside of the Battalion Headquarters and the schools are rated as some of the best in the United States!
As great as this Battalion is, and as wonderful as the area may be the reason why we exist as a military organization is to recruit America’s young men and women for our team that is “Army Strong!” Every generation has its hero’s and this one is no different and that is exactly what we expect of you, to be a hero in the United States Army Recruiting Command. Lodging is available at the Great Lakes Navy Lodge located centrally in the Forrestal Village. It is within walking distance to the battalion headquarters. The Navy Lodge offers 50 kitchenette units, with two units designed for handicapped personnel. No smoking and connecting units are also available. A mini-mart and gas station, open 18 hours per day, are located conveniently nearby. Check-in is 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., check-out is 12:00 p.m. Navy Lodge phone is 847-689-1485, FAX 847-689-1489, Toll-Free Number: 1-800-628-9466.
The Navy Lodge is located less than a mile from the battalion and only 2 miles from central billeting on Naval Station Great Lakes. Central Billeting - 847-688-2241 for Single Soldiers with no BAH.
The MilitaryHomeFront website has a convenient section to help with planning your next Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move. You can visit and/or call the Relocation Assistance Program nearest you or call the Fleet and Family Service Center, Relocation Assistance Program using our toll free line 1-888-231-0714 ext. 128.
All Soldiers will report to the Battalion headquarters, which is located on an annex of Great Lakes Naval Station at gate #9 on highway 137/Buckley Road. Headquarters address is 3202 Mississippi Street, building 3215 Great Lakes, IL 60088. he building is located on the Naval Base and requires all vehicles entering to have a DoD sticker. All Soldiers reporting into the battalion shall be dressed in ACU's and report to S-1 for check in. The main number to the S-1 office is (224)538-3545. . You must bring your orders, health and dental records.
Working hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Important Documents to Hand Carry for In-processing:
- At LEAST 10 copies of your orders
- Birth Certificates (or certified copy)
- Marriage Certificate
- Copy of advance travel pay or allowances paperwork
- All moving paperwork including: inventory, TMO information, Self-Procured Move paper work, and all receipts associated with moving
- Employment records or resume of civilian family members
- Medical/dental records from your previous duty station - entire family
- Immunization records for all children and all active-duty members
- School records/transcripts for children and adults
- Pet medical and immunization records
- RECOMMENDATION: Letters of credit from utilities companies (telephone, electric, etc; may result in waiver for deposits)
What to do if you get Married en route?
If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures.
