Strategic Plan Update: Gym Memberships, Reduced Child Costs

The Unites States Army Recruiting Command’s geographical dispersion often places Soldiers, Civilians and their families far away from military installations.  Quality of life challenges raised by this large geographic separation are being addressed as part of USAREC’s Strategic Plan People Goal area.

Since the plan’s launch in April, the People Goal Team has made progress on several initiatives to provide our Soldiers and Families services and support similar to those offered by Army installations.

Gym Memberships:  Fitness center memberships can be provided to USAREC Soldiers serving away from installations.  The program intends to provide Soldiers assigned to locations away from installation gym facilities and other no-cost fitness centers in the civilian community, are provided the same or better level of physical fitness center support than received on an installation.  In those cases with no increased cost to the Army, DA civilian employees (not contract workers) and family members of military personnel on active duty may use these services.  Refer to Operations Order 08-004 and associated FRAGOs on the USAREC G3 portal for detailed instructions.

Child Care:  This program provides subsidized child care to geographically-dispersed Soldiers and families to reduce out-of-pocket expensed.  The goal of the program, which the Department of the Army contracted with the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA), is to provide the same quality of child care available on installations and to equalize costs for off-post child care with installation child care costs.

Soldiers or Family members can contact NACCRRA at 800-424-2246 to determine eligibility and initiate application process. Child care providers must be a member of the NACCRRA to receive allotments from the Army. Fee reductions vary for each family depending upon the total Family income, geographical location, Army child care fee policies, and available funding.  This program is open to all ranks. More information is available at www.naccrra.org click on military child care help and then click on Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood.  USAREC Soldier and Family Assistance program managers can also assist with getting you started.
