Volunteer Awards Program

ATTENTION: Spouse award packets should arrive at HQ USAREC at least six weeks prior to desired presentation date. All spouses of Soldiers who depart USAREC receive a "Spouse Appreciation Certificate" and any other awards that they are qualified to receive.

It is important that DEERS records get updated when personal eligibility information changes. This includes changes in military career status; addresses; and Family status (marriage, divorce, birth, and adoption) etc. Contact your Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager for assistance.

Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS)

VMIS is an online data base system designed to maintain volunteer records. Volunteers must register with Army OneSource to access VMIS. For more information, visit the Army OneSource web site at http://www.myarmyonesource.com/

In accordance with AR 608-1, all individuals providing volunteer service to USAREC must have a signed Volunteer Agreement on file with the organization in which they are volunteering.
For Volunteer Agreement form (DD Form 2793), click here.

Reminder - When a Soldier is retiring or PCSing, someone should submit paperwork for a certificate or award for his/her spouse.

Spouse award packets should arrive at HQ USAREC at least six weeks prior to desired presentation date and contain the following:

  • Narrative that explains what was done, significance of the contribution(s), and number of volunteer hours contributed to the cause.
  • List of all previous awards the spouse has received
  • Proposed Citation
  • DA Form 1256 Presentation Date

The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal is an excellent way for commanders to recognize Soldiers who volunteer within their civilian communities.
