Competition for Regular Army Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, Army Reserve Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, Center Leader of the Year and First Sergeant of the Year begins today.

Twenty-five USAREC Soldiers are competing for the four awards - one representative for each category from every brigade and one from the Recruiting and Retention School.

The first week of competition consists of a series of grueling warrior tasks including M4 zero and Qualification, a 12-mile foot march/keep in memory, weapons maintenance, land navigation, identifying and countering IEDs, first aid, CBRNE, combatives, urban orienteering, and an obstacle course.

During the second week, Soldiers will face a board of command sergeants major and sergeants major lead by Command Sgt. Maj. Anthony Stoneburg.

The candidates are:

The board will select a winner from each of the four categories. The most qualified winner, sergeant first class or below, will represent the command in the TRADOC Best Warrior competition in August.
