SAN ANTONIO,TX - The U.S. Army San Antonio Recruiting Battalion welcomed its new commander during a change-of-command ceremony June 29 in front of hundreds at the historic Alamo here.

In a traditional Army ceremony, Lt. Col. D'Angelo A. Blount took command of the San Antonio Recruiting Battalion from Lt. Col. Kevin D. Bouren, who will become the chief of Army accessions at the Pentagon.

A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Blount has served in the infantry and Adjutant General Corps. He has deployed to Afghanistan and has worked numerous manpower assignments, including an assignment at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to taking command of the San Antonio Recruiting Battalion, he served as the executive officer for the Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate in the Human Resource Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Blount holds a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in human resource management.

Col. Terance L. Huston, U.S. Army 5th Recruiting Brigade commander, presided over the ceremony.

"In today's recruiting environment, we face many challenges. But despite the challenges, the San Antonio Recruiting Battalion must endure, for the strength of our nation is what hangs in the balance," Huston said. "D'Angelo is a seasoned military officer and a leader who understands the value of strength in uniform. We are pleased that he has taken on the challenge of becoming the San Antonio Recruiting Battalion commander.

The San Antonio Recruiting Battalion consists of seven companies, each with numerous recruiting centers throughout south and central Texas and southern New Mexico that recruit qualified men and women to provide the strength needed to uphold and defend freedom and democracy.
