Each year the Medical Recruiting Brigade conducts tours to military medical facilities at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Participants on these tours come from every area of medicine, most are educators, and some are practicing veterinarians, dentists, doctors or medical professionals from other disciplines. Fort Sam Houston was selected because the post is home to all the U.S. Army medical schools.
While in Fort Sam Houston members of civilian healthcare facilities visit Camp Bullis where they observe the training that all military medical professionals go through. The groups visit the Center for the Intrepid, a state-of-the-art physical therapy facility designed specifically to care for wounded warriors. The Brooke Army Medical Center visit takes guests through the burn center and other clinics germane to the group’s medical interests. For some the visits include the veterinary clinics, the dental clinics or the nursing school.
These visits provide a glimpse into the life of a member of the military healthcare team for nearly 100 people annually.
